Slovenia is a coastal Alpine country in southern Central Europe bordering Italy to the west, the Adriatic Sea to the southwest, Croatia to the south and east, Hungary to the northeast, and Austria to the north.

The mainland covers 20,273 km2. Land boundaries: Croatia (670 km), Italy (280 km), Austria (330 km), and Hungary (102 km)

Ljubljana (265,881 inhabitants), the economic, traffic, cultural and academic centre of the country.

Its climate is Submediterranean on the coast, Alpine in the mountains and continental with mild to hot summers and cold winters in the plateaus and valleys to the east
